JOMo, The Joy of Missing Out
The Joy of Missing Out
FOMO is out, JOMO is in!
Now while I can’t claim to have coined this phrase, I can tell you I LOVE it!
Why do I love it? Well I am glad you asked.
See years of people pleasing is what I now know to be a form of high functioning anxiety, well I am over it.
I was really good at saying no to some things, but then terrible at saying no to the people I loved. I love when people are happy and feel good but it was costing me my sanity.
Years of doing a ton of shit that I did not want to do, but not knowing how to say no.
Well that shit is over.
Yes, we can do this sport. Yes, we can do that sport. Yes, we can do all the dance things. Yes, I can teach this class or that class. Yes, I help be a part of this and that.
No, no, no, no, and no.
Instead of Fear of Missing Out on something, or seeing something I said no to looking like it was amazing and being bummed, I can feel Joy.
Does it sound crazy or can you relate yet?
Or maybe you are wanting to get to this point and have not pulled the trigger on it, yet.
Trying to control other people’s emotions on their reactions to you saying no is another potentially uncomfortable side effect of JOMO, but your inner peace is the reward for it.
You have zero control over other people’s emotions so do not bother trying to do anything about it.
Take your inner peace and run with it.
When you can be happy for those doing the thing you said no to, there’s massive power in that.
The Joy of Missing Out, is missing out on the shit you did not really want to do.
Maybe it is the wrong people that drain the life out of you. Maybe you literally have zero time to squeeze anything else in to your day. Maybe you should not be wasting money on something that will drain your bank account or take away from what you truly want to spend your hard earned money on. Maybe you just need a day at home to be in PJ’s all day and veg the F out.
DO THAT!

It may be hard at first.
But it is so worth it.
When I do say Yes now I mean it.
You know what happens then too?
I am fully present. With people that bring me joy. I give my best to those around me. I leave feeling energized.
JOMO.
