Holy smokes, I wrote a best-selling book!
Yeah! It is months later, and I am still in shock!
I have had so many people ask me how it all went down so thought I would share it all here.
From the day I decided I was going to write a book, to the day it actually was published was 4 years.
Yes. 4 years!!
The book is about personal growth. I share a lot of my personal growth that occurred in my life, but also included questions to help people reflect on their lives as well. We all live through some crazy shit in our lives. Being open and honest about it is where we grow and where we potentially are helping others through their struggles and growth.
I sat down one day and dumped about 11,000 words into a Word document. Then I was stumped.
After the initial chunk of writing a writer friend of mine read through it and gave me some pointers on direction. Like whom was my target audience and what did I want people to get out of reading it?
With that info I was able to start organizing everything and add questions to the end of each section. Then the book sat for a while after that too.
I am a huge believer in things finding me at the right time in life and in life timing in general, so I never felt rushed and just let the natural timing of life lead me.
Life pointed me in the direction of a program that gave the guidance of writing 800-900 words a day every day and you would have an over 50,000-word book. That is the industry standard for the type of book I was writing so now I had a goal. Also, to just dump your thoughts out and then go back later to organize and edit them.
Great! I had that done now.
Then next step was I went through using a free program and did all the editing, spelling, and grammar myself. My sister created the cover. Then again, I got stuck.
How do I now take this completed book and publish it?
The final step in the process is where I hired some help. A fabulous woman who has successfully self-published multiple best sellers on Amazon.
Thanks to her help we got my book looking like an actual book and it hit the Best Seller list the first day!
Like a freaking dream come true!
Really the best part about this is being able to share my story to so many more people out there. Hearing other people’s stories of what they have overcome helped me to be able to do the same in my life. I am proud of the woman I have become and the growth I continue to have.
Growth is uncomfortably hard and freaking scary at times, but guys and gals it is sooooooo worth it!
Wherever you are on your life journey, I would love to be a part of it.
And if my book does help you on your journey, make sure to let me know!
